Although technology will not replace the visit to the family doctor, video conferencing is emerging as powerful component in telemedicine and telehealth. Video conferencing helps many patients, and enables doctors to communicate with specialists without local boundaries in order to make critical diagnoses faster.
Telemedicine is the use of medical information that is exchanged between treatment sites via electronic communications. Telehealth describes remote healthcare that may include clinical services. Telemedicine and telehealth may use video conferencing, still images, documents, e-health (patient portals for example) and remote monitoring of vital signs. According to reports Telemedicine is successfull applied in almost 50 different medical subspecialties areas including: dermatology, ophthalmology, mental health, cardiology and pathology to name a few.
IP-based videoconferencing (like our services) has empower the growth and evolution of telemedicine and telehealth. In the next 10 years virtually all telehealth transmissions will occur using Internet Protocol says The Association of Telehealth Service Providers (ATSP). This is especially important because it provides the real-time communication and interaction required in a doctor, or health provider and patient relationship.
Shared Visions Video Conferencing services help to further the growth, acceptance and adoption of telemedicine initiatives. Keeping telemedicine costs low enables providers to reach out to a broader audience, including those in rural regions and low-income patients who cannot afford to travel long distances for care. Once telemedicine reaches maturity, it will be possible to bringing top-notch health care to those who really need it via video conferencing and without the time delay and cost of traveling to a clinic in another state or country.
Here is a good example of already applied telemedicine. Want to know more? Contact us on telemedicine@sharedvisions.ie or call 021-492 89 54.

Business travel is archaic, expensive and ineffective. It used to be seen as a luxury and a deserved perk for a demanding job. But now it’s a nuisance. For a start, it’s an inefficient way of getting access to the contacts you need to see.
Why is it? Ask yourself this question. If you put your work productivity under the microscope, how much time do you waste travelling to meetings? How much of that time would you spend doing the activities that make the business more profitable?
The time that employees spend out of the office, or away from their laptops, is “wasted time”, costing the business money. With the eagle-eyed approach to expenditure these days, it’s surprising that companies are not looking more closely at how they can eliminate these costs from the balance sheet.
Here is a new way of business introductions – high end video messaging. Very easy to produce, very effective and at very little cost to the business! Combined this with new online meeting, browser based video, web and call conferencing solutions and you will see the impact on you business immediatley.

We are regularly testing all hardware available on the market (Video/Audio/related) in house and with our customers and give you our honest opinion on what works and what doesn’t. Today we look at two contenders in the audio conferencing market Konftel and Polycom. Polycom have increased their pricing twice in 2009! They are up a hefty 25% in recession times! Even though prices can rise, I don’t think this is the right move and it shows that corporations that can do it still tend to cash in, even more in tough times. Konftel had a moderate increase of 10% which I think is justifiable. Have a look and let us know you opinion. Happy watching, contact us for questions.
